Porto, sketch by sketch
Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, is undefeated in many fronts!
The charming city in the north is the European Best Destination for the third time in a five-year span. But what has been making it so special for us, sketchers, in the past few months since the national Urban Sketchers gathering in 17-18th of September, is the work that was being done to publish the resulting set of sketches in the book “Porto por/by Urban Sketchers”. Ponto M broke records by marketing a fine-crafted, well-organized and sexy-looking book, along with dozens of merchandising items featuring our sketchbook doodles, in an amazingly short time!
The book launch took place in Armazéns do Castelo, a space owned by the historical landmark Livraria Lello, where a small crowd gathered to listen to Pedro Alegria, of the Urban Sketchers Portugal Norte chapter, Nelson Paciência, of the Urban Sketchers Portugal Association and Manuel Reis of the publisher Ponto M. Together with Clara Palma and Helena Nunes, they had the painstakingly task of selecting the sketchers of every author that submitted scans, lay them out on 216 pages, tackling the different scanning processes, formats and sizes, and still come up with a piece of design that one can proudly display on the coffee table, or happily take it home after a pleasant vacation in Porto.
